i
t
1.0 BACKGROUND
1.1 PURPOSE
The purpose of this work plan is to present the procedures to install triple probe
soil gas monitoring well at Corral Hollow Sanitary landfill (CHSL).
1.2 SITE DESCRIPTION
The CHSL is a closed, unlined Class III landfill located at 31130 South Corral
Hollow Road, in southern San Joaquin County, approximately 5 miles south of
the City of Tracy, at the intersection of Interstate 580 and Corral Hollow Road
(Figure 1). The landfill covers approximately 58 acres, of which 43 acres was
permitted disposal area. The remaining area is comprised of access roads,
storm water retention ponds, setbacks for environmental monitoring, and
firebreaks. Land within 1,000 feet of the facility is used for grazing and
agriculture. The landfill ceased receiving waste in 1991. Currently the landfill is
under post closure maintenance. As part of closure, the landfills perimeter is
being monitored for off site migration of Landfill Gas (LFG) with seven soil gas
monitoring wells (Figure 2).
1.3 REASON FOR INSTALLING SOIL GAS EXTRACTION WELL
The lower probe of the existing soil gas monitoring well GW-1 has been found to
be submerged. To provide an adequate well to monitor off site migration of
landfill gas, near the vicinity of GW-1, the new soil gas monitoring well GW-1 A
will be installed. The existing well will be retained per the request of San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Department (EHD).
1.4 WELL LOCATION
The new soil gas monitoring well will be installed at north western corner of
CHSL near the existing well GW-1 (Figure 2).
2.0 DRILLING
The Solid Waste Division will obtain drilling permits from EHD. The Solid Waste
Division will notify EHD Unit 6 at least two working days in advance of drilling for
an inspection.
Drilling and completion of the well will be done by a licensed contractor. The
contractor will be responsible to comply with the work plan and construct the well
Work Plan—Soil Gas Monitoring Well Installation San Joaquin County
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill Public Works Department
Page 3 of 7 Solid Waste Division
