A few things I hope you will allow me to clarify, please see inserts below. Some of these
were also addressed in my letter to Mike Wochnick dated September 3.
-----Original Message-----
From: Yekta, Gino [mailto:GYekta@CIWMB.ca.gov]
Sent: Wednesday, September 05, 2007 3:02 PM
To: Michael Carroll
Cc: Robert McClellon [EH; Wochnick, Michael; Todd Del Frate
Subject: RE: Corral Hollow Landfill
Hello Michael: We have reviewed your September 3, 2007 letter report regarding refuse found beyond
the closed Corral Hollow property boundary and the investigation undertaken. We understand that site
investigation has been completed and that delineation of refuse and closure cap on the County property
is now complete. As suggested in our letter dated August 9, 2007, and as you have stated in your letter,
the work and the remediation of the refuse found on the County property and the State property
should best be coordinated as one project and closed as such.
Actually, this is not the approach that the County would recommend; my letter apparently did not state clearly
enough the request that the requirement of a single project be reconsidered.
Now that the delineation of refuse within the County property is complete, we are ready to proceed with design of
closure over the refuse on our property, including incorporating enhanced collection of LFG in that area to
remediate the VOC impact at MW-5. VOC impact seen at well MW-5 is the single confirmed environmental
impact due to the presence of the Corral Hollow Landfill, and we have been looking forward to increasing our
corrective action against this impact. The requirement by your agency and San Joaquin County Department of
Environmental Health that the work in County and CalTrans property proceed as a single project will cause some
delay. I have expressed concern about this to both Michael Wochnick and Robert McClellon in separate
telephone conversations, but I have not received notice from them that this requirement has been lifted. We hope
this delay will be minimal.
CalTrans should conduct similar investigation on their property and share results with the County and
other agencies.
9/7/2007
