I. BACKGROUND
1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this Work Plan is to present the procedures for installing two addition-
al Landfill Gas (LFG) Migration Monitoring (soil gas) wells GW -8 and GW -9 at Corral
Hollow Sanitary landfill (CHSL).
2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION
CHSL is a closed, unlined Class III landfill located at 31130 South Corral Hollow
Road, in southern San Joaquin County, approximately 5 miles south of the City of
Tracy, at the intersection of Interstate 580 and Corral Hollow Road (Figure 1). The
landfill property includes approximately 58 acres, of which 43 acres are a permitted
disposal area. The remaining area is comprised of access roads, storm water reten-
tion ponds, setbacks for environmental monitoring, and firebreaks. Land within 1,000
feet of the facility is used for grazing and agriculture.
The landfill was certified closed in 1996. Currently the landfill is under postclosure
maintenance. As part of closure, the landfill's perimeter is being monitored for off-site
LFG migration with seven soil gas wells (Figure 1).
3.0 REASON FOR INSTALLING SOIL GAS WELLS
The additional wells are required by Regional water Quality Control board (RWQCB).
These wells will allow to closer monitoring of potential off-site LFG migration along the
northeastern side of the landfill.
4.0 WELL LOCATION
The additional soil gas wells will be installed at northeastern side of CHSL (Figure 1).
Well GW -9 will be installed in Caltrans right-of-way. An encroachment permit for the
installation of the soil gas well in Caltrans property has been secured by Solid Waste
Division (SWD). A copy of the encroachment permit was submitted to San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Department (EHD) for the original permit application.
The, location of the additional wells is as far from the from refuse limit as possible but
within the landfill property; thus, excavation of refuse or contact with refuse is not ex-
pected during drilling. The well locations will be adjusted if necessary based on the
field conditions.
Work Pian -soil Gas Well Installation Page 1-4— Solid Waste Division
Corral Hollow Landfill Public Works Department
