Geoprobe rods were thoroughly cleaned prior
to soil probe boring advancement.
ANALYTICAL METHODS
The collected soil samples were transported under chain-of-custody to Cal Tech Environmental
Laboratories (CTEL), a California Department of Health Services-certified laboratory, for analysis
for:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 5030/8015M;
Volatile organic compounds, including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX),
and the fuel additives tertiary butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DEPE), ethyl tert-butyl ether
(ETBE), tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME), methyl tertiary- butyl ether (MTBE),
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) in accordance with EPA
Method 8260B;
Soil pH in accordance with EPA Method 9040; and
Cam 17 metals in accordance with EPA Method 6010.
FINDINGS
In general, red brown clayey silt to silty fine sands were encountered from surface grade to the total
depth of each boring; most samples were dry to slightly moist with low plasticity and toughness.
Field observations did not detect petroleum hydrocarbon-like odor in any of the soil samples
collected, or the presence of volatile organic compounds utilizing an organic vapor meter (OVM)
equipped with a photo-ionization detector (HD: Thermo Environmental 580B, 10.0 eV, calibrated
to isobutylene).
CTEL analyzed the 5-foot bsg soil sample from each soil boring for the contaminants listed in the
Analytical Methods section above:
Petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in the analyzed soil.
Soil pH ranged between 8.2 to 8.6; the pH is typical for the mildly to strongly alkaline
Jacktone-Hollenbeck-Stockton soil in the site vicinity.
CAM 17 metals barium, chromium, cobalt, copper, nickel, vanadium and zinc were detected
in soil samples collected from all soil borings at maximum concentrations of 180 mg/kg.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
