Sincerely,
William R. Little OF Senior Project Geologist
California Registered Professional Geologist No. 7473
10 July 2017
AGE Project No. 14-3024
Page 2 of 2 Advanced
Environmental
PROCEDURES
:OP.g
As required, a health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational
Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to drilling activities, each proposed
location will be clearly marked and utility clearance will be obtained through Underground
Service Alert.
The required well destruction permits (attached) will be obtained from the SJCEHD prior
to destruction activities. Before commencement of drilling, all wells will be checked for
total depth and integrity using a Solinst water level meter. Any obstructions found in the
well will be removed. A neat cement Portland type 2 mixture will be installed into the well
and displace the water in the wells until the casing is full. The well will be pressurized for
a minimum of 10 minutes and then filled with additional Portland cement as required. The
upper three feet of the well casing in the boring will be removed and then the boring filled
with additional Portland cement for an additional cover over the casing, surrounding the
casing (2 feet wide). Remaining boreholes will be backfilled to surface grade with native,
allowing the neat cement to fill and plug the horizontal surface. The boreholes will be
backfilled to surface grade with neat portland cement and covered with concrete, asphalt,
or native soil, depending on the surrounding surface material.
Rinseate generated during drilling and decontamination activities will be containerized in
properly labeled Department of Transportation (D.O.T.)-approved 55-gallon drums and
soil will be contained in an onsite soil bin and both will be stored on-site until proper
disposal is arranged to a suitable non-hazardous waste facility. Upon completion of field
work and disposal waste, a report documenting the field activities and procedures,
including documentation of waste disposal, will be prepared and submitted to the
SJCEHD and the Regional Board.
If you have any questions or require further information, please contact our office at (209)
467-1006.
Enclosure cc: Mr. Jim Weber
