Dedicated pneumatic displacement pumps were used to purge a
minimum of four well volumes prior to sampling. Temperature, pH,
specific conductance (E.C. ) and visual characteristics were
monitored during the purge operations at a frequency of
approximately one set of measurements per well casing volume
removed . These parameters were allowed to stabilize prior to
sampling according to specifications in Appendix A, Section 2 .103
of the contracted "Specifications for Groundwater Quality
Sampling and Analysis for the Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill",
previously submitted to California Water Labs . All measurements
and other pertinent information was recorded in a field service
log book .
After the purge operation a 2-inch bladder pump and/or a Teflon
Bailer was used for sample collection. --Samples were first-
collected for organics analyses and then for remaining
parameters . Care was taken to avoid entrapment of air with the
samples . Each container was labeled to indicate clients name,
sample location, date and time of collection. Additional
labeling was performed by Sample Control at the Laboratory to
assign I .D. numbers, project numbers and preservatives used .
Chain-of-Custody documentation was prepared and accompanied the
samples to the Laboratory.
The clarity of the well water obtained during sampling operation,•
indicated no suspended solids or silts were associated with the
samples . Therefore they were not filtered in the field or in the
Laboratory. Preservation was accomplished in the field by
cooling the samples . The samples were delivered the same day to
the laboratory and appropriate preservatives were added at that
time by laboratory personnel.
Analysis was performed in accordance with EPA quantitative
analytic procedures (see Appendix A, Section 2 . 03 of
"Specifications . . . . ) QA/QC protocol was also followed according
to EPA specifications . Details of CWL's mandatory Quality
Assurance Guidelines can be obtained by request.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call
me .
Sincerely,
Scott Foster
Inorganic Laboratory Director
SF/do
