Memo to Ken Landau -2- 4 June 1985
5 . The proposed cover species Bromus Mollis ( soft chess) , is an
annual grass , not a perennial , making it undesirable as a
final cover species. More information on Bromus Mollis such
as rooting depth, density of cover, drought resistance, and
recovery after disruption should be supplied.
6. The soil permeability data submitted is not adequate. The
specific test method used ( fixed ring, triaxial , falling
head, static head) , test procedures ( saturation times ,
pressures , length of run , etc ) , gradation analyses and
optimum density vs . water content for all samples, and the
actual test data and calculations must be supplied.
The permeability values that were supplied in the submitted
plan should be verified and further tests run on the
actual material to be used for cover. After reviewing the
gradation analyses and the bore logs supplied, it would
appear that the results of permeability tests run on
remolded samples from the borings would not support the
statement that "at least 80 percent of the cemented silty
sand and sandy silt materials below the five foot level and
the shallower soils have permeabilities less than 1 x 106
centimeters per second" .
7 . The bore logs , referenced in the submitted plan , from the
December 1984 drilling should be supplied.
GARsjec
