Harprit S. Mattu [EH]
From: Harprit S. Mattu [EH]
Sent: Friday, September 8, 2017 4:29 PM
To: 'Adam Pescatore'
Subject: RE: Harvest Power Lathrop Analysis August
Adam,
There were a few concerns I wanted to mention regarding the inspection. For composting, the windrows must maintain
131F degrees for at least 15 days straight and in the period of time that they are at 131F, be turned a minimum of 5
times. Looking through the windrow temperature logs, the majority of the windrows do not maintain 131F for 15
days. Therefore, the turnings do not count because every time the temperature drops below 131F the process has to
reset. So, if the windrows are turned 5 times over a 23 day period, then the temperature of the windrow would need to
maintain 131F for the 23 days. If the windrows are turned 5 times in a 5 day period, but on day 6 the temperature drops
below 131F, then turns don't count and the process resets. The older windrows seem to be maintaining temperature. It
is the newer ones that are having this issue.
For the special occurrence log, if there no is no special occurrence for a month, a form should be filled out stating no
special occurrence (previous months were available in the folder).
For record of weather conditions, I noticed that the outdoor temperature is recorded when the windrow temperature is
taken. Previously, the temperature and weather condition was recorded on the daily sheet which is currently being
used to state that no complaints were received. We need additional information in terms of weather (windy, rain, hot,
cold, etc). The way it was recorded previously was satisfactory.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Harprit S.
