1
.4'E O Ypq CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD Cal/EPA
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
— e
3443 Routier Road, Suite A
Sacramento,CA 95827-3098
°UA^' Phone(916)255-3000
FAX(916)255-3015 Peu Wilson,Governor
November 24, 1997 -
Mr. Michael Douglas
12469 Robleda Road
Los Altos Hills, CA 94022
GOLDEN GATE FRESH FOODS PROPERTY, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
This letter describes our understanding of the meeting on 20 November 1997 dealing with the possible
purchase of the Golden Gate Fresh Foods Property, San Joaquin County. The meeting was attended by
you(Michael Douglas potential buyer Golden Gate Fresh Foods property), K. Gus Hazifotis of Hazifotis
Environmental Systems, and Bill Marshall, Jack DelConte and Victor Izzo of Regional Water Quality
Control Board. The discussions were primarily concerning a release from liability agreement and site
work relating to water quality issues. You stated that the following projects would be completed in
return for the release from liability:
• The petroleum underground tanks will be removed and the site closed according to County
requirements and the Underground Tank Regulations. The County as lead agency should be
contacted for specific regulations and any necessary permits.
• The Class II Surface Impoundment(Pond 1) would be clean closed according to Title 27 regulations.
We discussed a removal of the liquids to an appropriate disposal location and the liner to nearby
landfill. The remaining hole would be filled with soil and graded to drain rainfall off this area.
• Pond 2 would either be covered by a structure that would prevent water from entering the pond area
or the site would be regraded and compacted and/or paved to inhibit percolation of precipitation.
• Monitoring of the groundwater will be done.
Our mission is to preserve and enhance the quality of California's water resources, and
A ensure their proper allocation and efficient use for the benefit of present and future generations.
.a Recycled Paper
