3.0 Field Activities <br /> 3.1 Summary of Field Activities <br /> Remedial activities at the Site were conducted from February 2,2004 through April 26,2004. <br /> The general chronology of field activities is as follows: <br /> • Abandonment of wells MW-1,MW-9,and MW-10: August 28,2003 and February 13, <br /> 2004 <br /> • Site preparation,removal of production equipment(production fluids tank and <br /> contactor tower),demolition of concrete pads and Site cleanup: February 2-February <br /> 20,2004 <br /> • Pre-disposal soil sampling for landfill acceptance: February 3 and February 13,2004 <br /> • Soil sampling associated with demolition activities: February 5-April 19,2004 <br /> • Excavation,verification sampling and soil disposal:April 12-April 19,2004 <br /> • Backfill and compaction completion,soil compaction testing and Site restoration:April <br /> 19- April 26,2004 <br /> All activities at the Site were conducted in accordance with the site-specific health and <br /> safety plan,and Site personnel were informed of protocols during daily pre-construction <br /> safety briefings.Photographs were taken during field activities (see selected photographs in <br /> Appendix B). <br /> Prior to commencement of field work,appropriate permits were obtained from the <br /> regulating government agencies.Well Destruction Permits were obtained from the San <br /> Joaquin County Environmental Health Department for the abandonment of wells MW-1, <br /> MW-9,and MW-10.A Grading Permit was obtained from the San Joaquin County <br /> Community Development Department(Permit No. BP-0303801).Copies of the permits are <br /> included in Appendix A. Prior to commencing soil removal work,a letter of notification of <br /> excavation activities was sent to the California Occupational Safety and Health <br /> Administration.Underground Service Alert(USA)was notified 48 hours prior to field <br /> activities. The Valley Air Quality Management District was notified by phone 30 days prior <br /> to the start of planned construction activities. <br /> 3.2 Monitoring Well Abandonment <br /> Monitoring wells MW-1,MW-9,and MW-10 were abandoned on August 28,2003 in <br /> compliance with the San Joaquin County permit and requirements. MW-1 and MW-9 were <br /> overdrilled,as planned,to their maximum depths of 20.5 feet and 19.6 feet below ground <br /> surface (bgs),respectively;they were then grouted to within three feet of the surface and <br /> backfilled to the ground surface with native material.
