i
units. Although the majority of the materials are silty, soil textures range from sandy gravel to
clay (GTI, 1995 and 1996).
2.3 Hydrol9gy
Limited shallow groundwater information is available for this site. Groundwater
was encountered at approximately 33 feet bgs in January 1995 (GTI, 1995). A single monitoring
well (MW-1), with a screened interval of 25 to'40 feet bgs, had a groundwater level of 30 feet
bgs in September 1996 (GTI, 1996). The groundwater gradient and flow direction at this the site
are not currently known.
3.0 INVESTIGATION APPROACH
To determine if TCE is present at concentrations of concern in the groundwater
near the former condensate outlet pipe, six additional groundwater samples will be collected in
this vicinity. Soil samples will not be collected during this event. Sample locations are shown
on Figure 2. The rationale for these locations is as follows:
CPT-1 - Adjacent to former condensate pipe location.
CPT-2 - A location approximately 25 feet southeast of CPT-1 to determine if TCE
has migrated from the potential source area.
CPT-3 - A location approximately 25 feet northwest of CPT-1 to determine if TCE
has migrated from the potential source area.
5
