5.0 ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS
a. Electrical:
The potential exists for subsurface utilities. A utilities map has been obtained and reviewed and
no utilities have been identified in this area.
b. Temperature extremes:
Ambient temperatures are expected to range between 40-70T.
C. Heights:
All work will be performed at ground level or within the enclosed CPT vehicle.
d. Noise:
No excessive noise sources are anticipated. The field crew will have hearing protection available
to them in the event that a noise source is encountered at the site.
e. Explosion/Fire:
No sources for fire and explosion are anticipated.
f. Radiation:
No sources for radiation are present.
g. Confined spaces:
No work associated with confined spaces will be performed associated with this project.
h. Trenches/Excavations:
No trenching or excavation will be conducted during this project.
i. Potential Airborne Chemical Hazards:
The contaminants of concern are(MSDSs are attached to this Plan):
Crude Oil and constituents(e.g.,Benzene); and
Trichloroethylene.
These contaminants have been detected subsurface due to historical leadage from activities
occurring adjacent to the site. CPT sampling will not generate any elevated airborne concentrations of these
subsurface contaminants.
j. Other Chemical Hazards:
Some of the groundwater samples require preservation using nitric acid. Sample containers may
be pre-acidified or be pH adjusted in the field. Sampling personnel should be careful when working with
concentrated acids. Acid resistant gloves and safety glasses will be required when working with acids, either
during the acidification process or during sampling. In addition, the sampling personnel must know if sample
vials have been pre-acidified.
35275 Welty Road,Vemalis California February 1997
Health and Satiy Plan
