FURTHER ACTION
At this time the deep probe of monitoringwell G -3 remains above the regulatory limit. It is
expected that this probe will be brought within regulatory limits by the LFG system in place at this
time. This expectation is based on:
• This system had previously brought all perimeter migration monitoring wells within
regulatory limits
• All components of the LFG system operate properly at this time
The LFG collection system has significant excess capacity
However, if GW-3 remains above the regulatory limit, it will likely be due to lack of influence on
the refuse in the vicinity of that monitoring well by the LFG system(Figure 2).
To correct this situation, the County proposes to install a two-stage extraction well in the northeast
corner of the Secondary Site(Figure 4). The first stage of this well will collect LFG from the
refuse while the second stage will collect gas from the soil beneath the landfill (Figure 5). Each
stage will be provided with an adjustment valve to adjust collection, and sampling ports to
measure the quality of the methane. This new well will be connected to the existing LFG system
through an above-ground pipe.
Although the methane content of the gas collected from the lower stage is expected to be low, it is
also expected that the quantity of gas collected at that stage will be minor compared to that
collected by the rest of the LFG system; therefore, it is not expected that collecting soil gas in this
manner will noticeably affect the operation of the LFG flare station.
The County intends to proceed directly with the installation of this well, with installation planned
for early February, weather permitting.
Remediation Plan for LFG Migration 7 San Joaquin County Public Works/Solid Waste
Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill Revised December 14,2004
