Scott Mansholt
Chevron Environmental Management Company
Post Office Box 6012
San Ramon, California 94583
Subject: Request for Extension of Submittal Date
Soil and Groundwater Investigation Report
Former Vernalis Pump Station
35500 Welty Road, Vernalis, California
Dear Mr. Mansholt:
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc. (Geomatrix), has prepared this request for the subject report on
behalf of Chevron Environmental Management Company (ChevronTexaco).
In response to a request by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board—Central
Valley Region (RWQCB), ChevronTexaco submitted the February 12, 2003, Soil and
Groundwater Investigation Work Plan (Work Plan) prepared by Geomatrix for the former
Roberts property located at 35500 Welty Road in Vernalis, California. The property is now
owned by the Bellini family (Bellini property) and was part of the former Vernalis Pump
Station.
The Work Plan was approved by the RWQCB in a February 28, 2003, letter to
ChevronTexaco. The field investigation activities in accordance with the Work Plan were
completed in August 2003. In addition to the scope of work proposed in the Work Plan,
ChevronTexaco has conducted and planned for additional assessments on the Bellini property
and the Arcos property located immediately south of the Bellini property. The Arcos property
was also part of the former Vernalis Pump Station. These additional assessments include the
following:
1. A field survey/mapping of the Bellini and Arcos properties was conducted by a
licensed land surveyor on September 8 and 10, 2003. The objective of the
survey/mapping is to obtain accurate locations of the property boundaries, soil
borings, groundwater monitoring wells, and existing surface features at the
properties.
2. A geophysical survey was conducted at the Bellini and Arcos properties on
September 16 and 17, 2003, to locate pertinent underground features that may be
associated with the Old Valley Pipeline or other former pump station operations.
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc.
Engineers, Geologists, and Environmental Scientists
