N '
/9
GEOMATRIX
Mr. M. Scott Mansholt
Chevron Environmental Management Company
September 29, 2003
Page 2
3. Historical aerial photographs of the properties have been requested from various
sources by Geomatrix. These photographs will be reviewed to identify areas of
potential environmental concerns that may be related to the operations of the
former pump station. Other features not related to the former pump station that
may influence the site evaluation will also be identified.
4. Based on the results of the first three tasks, a work plan for a preliminary soil and
groundwater investigation at the Arcos property will be prepared for
ChevronTexaco's submittal to the RWQCB in accordance with ChevronTexaco's
Consistent Technical Approach I.
5. The field sampling activities for the preliminary soil and groundwater investigation
at the Arcos property have been tentatively scheduled for the last week of October
2003.
6. After completion of the preliminary soil and groundwater investigation at the
Arcos property and receipt of analytical results from the laboratory, a report will be
prepared for ChevronTexaco's submittal to the RWQCB. It is anticipated the
report will be available 60 days after the receipt of data.
Because both the Bellini and Arcos properties were part of the former Vernalis Pump Station,
we propose to combine in one report the results of the recently completed investigation at the
Bellini property with the proposed investigation at the Arcos property. We anticipate a final
report can be prepared for ChevronTexaco's submittal to the RWQCB by end of this year, if
there are no project delays due to contractor's availability or weather. We recommend that
ChevronTexaco request an extension from the RWQCB for the submittal of the investigation
report for the Bellini property.
Sincerely yours,
GEOMATRIX CONSULTANTS, INC.
Veen Chee Foo7-1 P.E.
Senior Engineer
t SECOND DRAFT Revised Technical Approach to Site Evaluation and Decision-Making,Old Valley Pipeline
Sites,Central Valley Region, prepared by Geomatrix on behalf of ChevronTexaco,December 2002.
I:\PROJECTl5000s15011.000\Roberts rpt extension request.doc
