GEOMATRIX <br /> REPORT OF SOIL AND <br /> GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATIONS <br /> Former Vernalis Pump Station <br /> Welty Road, Vernalis, California <br /> 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> !� This report presents results of soil and groundwater investigations performed by Geomatrix <br /> Consultants,Inc. (Geomatrix), on behalf of Chevron Environmental Management Company <br /> I (ChevronTexaco) at the former Roberts property(Bellini property) at 35500 Welty Road and at <br /> _J the Arcos property(immediately south of the Bellini property) located in Vernalis,California <br /> (Figure 1). Both properties are part of the former Vernalis Pump Station,collectively referred <br /> to as"the site." The field investigation activities described in this report include the Bellini <br /> property investigation completed in August 2003 and the Arcos property investigation <br /> J completed in October 2003. The scope of the investigations included advancing soil borings to <br /> collect soil and/or grab groundwater samples to evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of <br /> petroleum-affected soil and groundwater at the site. <br /> The Bellini Property investigation was performed in accordance with Geomatrix's February 12, <br /> !a 2003, Soil and Groundwater Investigation Work Plan, Former Roberts Property. The Arcos <br /> J property investigation was conducted in accordance with Geomatrix's October 15, 2003, Work <br /> Plan for Preliminary Soil and Groundwater Investigation, Arcos Property. The work plans <br /> were submitted and subsequently approved by the California Regional Water Quality Control <br /> Board, Central Valley Region (RWQCB). <br /> 1.1 SITE HISTORY <br /> ( I The Standard Oil Company (predecessor to Chevron and now ChevronTexaco) Vemalis Pump <br /> Station operated from 1902 to 1935. The pump station was part of the former Old Valley <br /> Pipeline (OVP) system, which transported San Joaquin Valley crude oil from oil fields in <br /> Bakersfield to the ChevronTexaco refinery in Richmond, California. Figure 2 shows the <br /> current Bellini and Arcos properties,within which the former pipelines and pump station <br /> features were located. The former pump station features included a boiler house, a pump <br /> house, a heater house, a sump, an incinerator, a rubbish pit, cottages, and three bulk storage <br /> ` tanks with secondary containment structures. These surface structures were located within the <br /> i Arcos property.
