i
GEOMATRIX
After sampling, cement grout was placed in the boreholes from the bottom to the ground
surface via a tremie pipe. Grouting was performed with the approval of a SJC-PHS inspector.
Soil cuttings were stored on-site in labeled 55-gallon steel drums for disposal by
ChevronTexaco.
f 2.3.3 Analytical Methods
` f
J Soil samples were analyzed for TPHc (C10-C36 carbon range)using U.S. Environmental
i Protection Agency(EPA)Method 8015 Modified; benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene
(BTEX) using EPA Method 802113; and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)using EPA
Method 8270 SIM.
Ll
Grab groundwater samples were analyzed for TPHg (C6 to C12 carbon range) and TPHd (Clo to
7 C25 carbon range) using EPA Method 8015 Modified,BTEX using EPA Method 802113, and
PAHs using EPA Method 8270 SIM. TPHd analyses were performed both with and without a
silica-gel preparation procedure.
The laboratory data sheets and COC records are included in Appendix C.
2.4 RESULTS OF THE BELLINI PROPERTY INVESTIGATION
The lithology, soil data, and grab groundwater data are discussed in the following three
sections. The analytical results for the soil samples are summarized in Tables 2 and 3 and
shown on Figure 3. Grab groundwater analytical results are summarized in Tables 4 and 5 and
!, J shown on Figure 4.
2.4.1 Lithology and Hydrogeology
Soil encountered during previous investigations conducted at the site includes deposits of
fine-grained soil(including silts with sand or gravel) with interbedded coarse-grained deposits
(including silty sands and sands). A layer of sandy silt or silt with sand was observed between
about 30 and 45 feet in several borings advanced at the site(Geomatrix, 2002a). A layer of
sandy lean clay from about 65 to 70 feet bgs underlain by clayey sand from about 70 feet to at
least 82 feet bgs was observed in the deepest boring (SB-9) advanced at the site (Geomatrix,
2002a).
Soil encountered at and downgradient of the Bellini property during the August 2003
investigation is similar to that of previous investigations. Lean clay was encountered at depths
._J
I.NPROJECT5000s\5011.00015011-03.dm 8
d
