 I
GEOMATRIX
t • May 1993 aerial photograph—The current Bellini property appears to have been
1 cleared of shrubs. The rectangular patches of crops, scattered debris, and small
aboveground structures located within the current Arcos property appear to have
been removed.
3.2.2 Geophysical Investigation
A geophysical investigation was conducted at the Arcos property in September 2003 by
} NORCAL Geophysical Consultants, Inc. (NORCAL), of Petaluma, California. The objective
of the geophysical investigation was to locate pertinent underground features that may be
associated with the OVP or other pump station operations. NORCAL's report is included in
Appendix E and summarized in this section.
NORCAL used three geophysical methods for this investigation: electromagnetic terrain
'l conductivity(TC), electromagnetic line locating(EMLL), and electromagnetic metal detection
(MD). TC data were collected at 5-foot intervals along east-west traverses spaced 10 feet apart.
7 The EMLL and MD instrumentation were operated on a 50-foot by 50-foot grid and a 10-foot
by 10-foot grid, respectively, with fill-in traverses as needed.
JMore than 40 potential utility segments and several areas of buried metal were located across
the Arcos property. The utilities detected, mostly undifferentiatedfunidentified, range from
r more than 100 feet to less than 15 feet long. Increased density of utilities was detected in the
vicinity of the former pump house, boiler house, and heater house. A utility trending north-
south located immediately west of the former pump house matches the location of the lines
shown on the historical site map (Appendix D). Results of the geophysical investigation are
lshown on Figure 2.
1 3.2.3 Evaluation of Current Property Conditions
West Yost&Associates, Inc., of Davis,California, completed an aerial and land survey of the
site in September 2003. The survey included coordinates for the soil borings advanced as part
of the Bellini property investigation, the monitoring wells at the Bellini property, property
boundaries,Highway 33, Welty Road, and the railroad right-of-way. The survey map and
aerial photograph are shown on Figure 2.
A Geomatrix geologist completed a site reconnaissance at the Arcos property in August and
October 2003. The reconnaissance included walking the extent of the property, recording site
conditions, and interviewing current property tenants. During the site reconnaissance, several
llarge debris piles, uneven ground, and high vegetation were observed along the northeast
( 1APR0JE=G00s\50n.000\5011-03.doc 13
_1
