•
Geomatrix Consultants
October 14,2003
Page 4
or interference. We have used arrow heads to indicate where utilities are suspected to continue along
the same alignment but were traced no further due to the distance from the prescribed survey area.
The utilities we detected range in length from greater than 100 feet to shorter segments less than 15
feet long.. They occur in most areas of the site, with an increased density in the vicinity of the
former building foundations. These utilities may represent abandoned pipelines of various types.
The majority of the utilities are shown as undifferentiated utilities, because the type of utility they
represent is unknown. We did not physically observe any above ground extensions ofthese lines and
therefore could not determine their type. It is unknown whether any of the detected utilities could
represent sources of contamination.
In a few cases,.where we suspect(but could not confirm)the type of the utility,we have shown the
lines with an appropriate symbol(and question mark). For example, toward the northwest corner,
trending north-south at approximately 40 Easting,we have labeled the line as a suspected product
line CTT'). This is based solely on our review of a very dated and small version of a former
facilities schematic, showing the trend of a main product line. Additionally, a utility trending
southwest/northeast(from 2 OOE/300N to 170E/230N),provided a s imilar TC s ignature as 'the
aforementioned suspected product line. For this reason,we have also labeled it a suspected product
line because the survey results indicate it may be of a similar construction and depth. It is also
possible that some of the undifferentiated utilities in the vicinity of the foundations may represent
former product lines. However, we did not have any corroborative information to support our .
speculation.
We have labeled a few utilities as suspected water lines("W?")in the vicinity of 0-100 E and 200-
300N. These trend in the general direction of active residences/buildings as well as toward the"in-
use"water tank.
It has also been our experience that in some cases, curving,or relatively short utility segments(less
than approximately 20-to-30 feet long)may in fact represent linear metal debris such as a section of
railroad rail, based on their similar instrument response.
Finally,a known petroleum pipeline is located outside the investigation area. It is currently marked
with Kinder Morgan placards as a high pressure petroleum pipeline. It lies approximately 25-to-30
feet southwest and parallel to the railroad.
Buried Metal
During the course of the survey,we identified several areas of localized buried metal(based on our
interpretation of the TC contour variations and MD results). These areas are shown on Plates 1 and
2 as metal detector anomalies. The type of metal debris or objects these features actually represent
