GEOMATRIX <br /> ® REPORT OF SOIL AND <br /> GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION <br /> U.S. Can/Welty Road <br /> I <br /> Vernalis, California <br /> 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> ® This report presents results of field activities performed by Geomatrix Consultants, Inc. <br /> (Geomatrix), on behalf of Chevron Environmental Management Company (ChevronTexaco) at <br /> the U.S. Can/Welty Road Property in Vernalis, California. This site is located at 35275 Welty <br /> Road southwest of the intersections of Highway 33 and Welty Road (Figure 1). The field <br /> investigation activities described in this report were conducted in May 2002. The scope of the <br /> investigation included advancing three soil borings and collecting groundwater samples from <br /> E <br /> existing on- and off-site monitoring wells. Work was performed in accordance with Geoma- <br /> trix's December 2001 Soil and Groundwater Sampling Work Plan (Work Plan) and March <br /> 2002 Addendum to December 2001 Soil and Groundwater Sampling Work Plan (Addendum). <br /> The Work Plan and Addendum were submitted and subsequently approved by the San Joaquin <br /> County Public Health Services (SJC-PHS) and the Regional Water Quality Control Board- <br /> Central Valley Region (RWQCB). <br /> The purpose of this investigation was to obtain data to assess the vertical and lateral extent of <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon-affected soil and to evaluate groundwater quality beneath and in the <br /> vicinity of the site. This report contains a brief summary of previous work conducted, a <br /> description of the objectives of this investigation and sampling activities performed in <br /> May 2002, the results obtained from this investigation, and conclusions regarding site condi- <br /> tions based on data collected to date. The work described herein was performed in accordance <br /> with the ChevronTexaco's revised Consistent Technical Approach (CTA) that is typically <br /> applied at ChevronTexaco historical pipeline sites (Geomatrix 1997 and 2001 a). <br /> 2.0 BACKGROUND <br /> This section presents a discussion of the site use and previous environmental investigations <br /> conducted at the site. <br /> \\oaklldcptdata\Doc_Safe16000s16447.00I\Rcpon\US Can SoilGW Rpt.doc 1 <br />
