3.04 ABANDONED BORINGS <br /> A. The Contractor shall alert the Engineer if an obstruction is reached during <br /> drilling such that the well cannot be completed in accordance with the <br /> construction drawings. <br /> B. The Engineer will determine whether the borehole has reached a sufficient <br /> depth for its intended function. If the borehole is not to the design depth, <br /> then the Engineer may direct the Contractor to abandon the borehole. <br /> C. Backfill abandoned borings in native soil with neat cement. The Contractor <br /> shall tremie neat cement in the abandoned boring <br /> D. Backfill abandoned boring in refuse with soil. <br /> E. The Engineer will direct the Contractor to a new well location. <br /> 3.05 WELL INSTALLATION <br /> The Contractor shall coordinate well inspections with EHD inspector. <br /> The Contractor shall re-drill any borehole that caves in during well <br /> installation at no additional cost to the County. <br /> A. Backfilling <br /> 1. The Contractor shall measure the depth of the bore hole in the <br /> presence of the Engineer before backfilling. <br /> 2. Remove any organic materials from the drain rock backfill. <br /> 3. The Contractor shall maintain the well pipe vertical <br /> 4. Place backfill materials in a controlled manner to avoid bridging or <br /> overfilling the boring, or damaging the well pipe. <br /> 5. Bentonite plugs shall be hydrated in the borehole with five gallons of <br /> water. Wait one hour before adding neat cement on top of the <br /> bentonite plug. <br /> 6.
