Phase IIA Environmental Site Assessment Page 4
Former Karlson Trucking Property
Project No. 191.2
October 28, 1998
sample collection process and changed between the collection of each sample.
Aluminum foil was placed over each end of the sample tube with care taken not
to touch the portion of foil in contact with the soil or the end of the sample tube.
Each tube was then capped with plastic end caps and the ends taped with duct
tape. On the duct tape and a sample label affixed to each tube, information
about the sample was recorded including date and time collected, sampling
interval and the boring from which the sample was collected. Each sample was
then placed into an ice chest chilled to 4°C to await transport to the laboratory
under chain of custody protocol. A chain of custody is a document describing
each sample, who has custody of the samples at a given time and how each
sample is to be analyized.
Groundwater samples from the Geo-Probe borings were collected by oscillating a
clean dedicated section of Teflon tubing inserted inside of the hollow stem of the
Geo-Probe. This causes groundwater to rise to the surface. Samples were
collected in 1 liter amber glass bottles and 40 ml VOA vials preserved with
Hydrochloric Acid. Each sample container was then labeled and placed into an
ice chest chilled to 4°C to await transport to the laboratory under chain of
custody protocol.
2937 Veneman Ave.,#B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
