GEO-PHASE
ENVIRONMENTAL
Report
Site Characterization-Second Event
Former Karlson Trucking Facility
9909 East Woodward Avenue
Manteca, CA 95366
March 2,2000
Project No. 191.2
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The site is located along the southeastern edge of the City of Manteca, CA, at 9909 East
Woodward Avenue, which is adjacent to the intersection of Moffat Boulevard and
Woodward Avenue. It consists of one triangular shaped parcel of land approximately 15
acres in size. The southern approximately 3/5ths of the site formerly was a truck service
and switching yard. The remainder of the Property consists of an almond orchard.
1.2 Previous Environmental Work
Previous environmental investigation revealed the presence of degraded diesel fuel
contamination that impacted the soil and groundwater. This was first documented in a
report entitled Phase IIA Environmental Site Assessment, Former Karlson Trucking
Facility, 9909 East Woodward Avenue, Manteca Ca, dated October 28, 1998. In order to
characterize the extent of the release, Geo-Phase Environmental subsequently completed
a number of soil borings and installed a total of six groundwater monitoring wells, and a
limited passive soil gas survey was also completed. A 7th well unrelated to the diesel
investigation was also constructed.
The data accumulated during the course of this investigation suggest that the diesel
contamination is limited to the upper few feet of the groundwater column, and extends in
the northwesterly direction in a long, narrow plume. Analysis of groundwater samples
collected from the borings and wells have not previously defined the extreme down-
gradient extent of the contaminant plume. The work documented herein was completed
2937 Veneman Avenue,Suite B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc. Phone: (209)569-0293
Modesto,Ca 95356 Fax: (209)569-0295
