GEOTHASE
ENVIRONMENTAL
Report
Groundwater Monitoring Well Abandonment
Former Karlson Trucking Property
9909 East Woodward Avenue
Manteca, CA 95366
August 6, 2002
Project No. 191.2
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report documents the final abandonment (destruction) of 6 former
groundwater monitoring wells located on the Property. This work was
completed on August 1, 2002.
1.1 Site History
In 1998, Geo-Phase Environmental, Inc. determined that a release of
petroleum hydrocarbons had impacted the soil and groundwater under the
Property. Subsequently the California Regional Water Quality Control
Board was notified of the release, and they directed that additional work be
completed to investigate the extent of the contamination. To accomplish this,
a number of soil borings were installed and a total of 7 groundwater
monitoring wells were constructed, and several rounds of groundwater
monitoring and sampling were completed. One of these wells (MW-5) was
later destroyed, as it was no longer needed. The results of the investigation
showed that the source of the release was a battery of former aboveground
diesel storage tanks located between the shop and the pole barn. The lateral
and vertical extent of the groundwater diesel plume was limited to a narrow
band on the Property, and did not extend deeper than about 32 feet below
grade.
2937 Veneman Avenue, Suite B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
