Groundwater samples would be collected from each of these
borings with four groundwater samples collected from SB-10 at depths of
14, 19, 24 and 28 feet below grade.
2. Upon completion of the Geo-Probe soil borings, two monitoring wells were
to be installed. The work plan called for one well to be located to the
southeast of MW-3 to bound the southern margin of the contaminant
plume, and one well was to be located in the down-gradient direction from
the point of release. Based on the results of the Geo-Probe borings, and at
the suggestion of RWQCB staff, this plan was changed so that both wells
were located in the down-gradient direction from MW-4.
2.1.1 Geo-Probe Boring Installation
A total of five Geo-Probe borings were installed on January 26, 2000. These
consisted of the following:
• SB-8 and 9 in down-gradient direction from the suspected point of release,
these borings were to be installed to 20 feet below grade
• SB-10 adjacent to MW-4, to be installed to 30 feet below grade, and
• SB-11 and 12 south of the suspected point of release to be installed 20 feet
below grade.
These borings were drilled using a 1.5" outside diameter Geo-Probe direct
push drilling machine owned and operated by V & W Drilling Inc., of Rio
Vista, CA (License #720904). Soil samples were collected for geological and
analytical evaluation at five foot intervals using a 1.5 inch diameter by 2 foot
long core sampling device fitted with a 1.5" by 2 foot long plastic liners. Upon
completion of each boring, the boring was backfilled with tremied cement
grout.
2.1.2 Hollow Stem Auger Soil Borings
Two hollow stem auger soil borings were installed into groundwater to a total
depth of approximately 20 feet below grade. Groundwater was encountered
at approximately about 8 to 9 feet below grade. These borings were located
as follows:
• MW-6, due north of the western edge of the pole barn building. The
location of this boring was adjusted approximately 8 feet south due to the
2937 Veneman Avenue, Suite B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
