Site Characterization-Second Event Page 4 <br /> Former Karlson Trucking Facility <br /> Project No. 191.2 <br /> April 27, 2000 <br /> presence of overhead obstructions in the originally proposed boring <br /> location. <br /> • MW-7, approximately due north of the eastern edge of the pole barn <br /> building. <br /> These borings were drilled using a 8.0 inch outside diameter hollow stem <br /> auger owned and operated by V & W Drilling Inc., of Rio Vista, CA (C-57 <br /> License #720904). Soil samples were collected for geological and analytical <br /> evaluation at five foot intervals using a 2.0 inch diameter by 1.5 foot long <br /> hammer driven California Split Spoon sampling device fitted with three 2 by <br /> 6 inch stainless steel liners. Soil cuttings and drilling decontamination water <br /> were containerized in D.O.T. approved containers awaiting analysis to <br /> determine appropriate disposal of this material. <br /> 2.1.3 Soil Sampling and Analyses <br /> The soil sample collection procedure was as follows: <br /> The end of each stainless steel or plastic tube removed from the split spoon or <br /> coring device and possibly submitted for laboratory analysis was sealed with <br /> tTeflon sheets, capped with plastic end caps, secured with tape, labeled and <br /> placed in a cooler at 4° Celsius for transport to the laboratory using Chain of <br /> Custody protocol. Chain of Custody (CofQ forms are documents used to track <br /> the handling of samples All dates, times, persons and companies handling <br /> the samples were listed from the time the sample was collected to its <br /> ultimate disposal. All soil sampling equipment was decontaminated between <br /> uses by washing using Tri-Sodium Phosphate or Alconox soap in a three <br /> bucket wash system. Nitrile gloves were worn during sample collection and <br /> changed between the collection of each sample. <br /> All sampling equipment was thoroughly cleaned before and between uses. <br /> Drilling decontamination water was containerized in appropriate DOT <br /> containers for later profiling to determine the proper disposal method of <br /> disposal. Soil cuttings were likewise containerized on-site until the <br /> analytical data was obtained and the proper disposal method determined <br /> Soil samples were shipped to Sherwood Labs (DHS #1400), of Hilmar, <br /> California, for analysis. Not all soil samples collected were submitted for <br /> laboratory analysis.
