(AGE). The Workplan proposes:
• Additional Cone Penetrometer Testing(CPT)borings with groundwater sampling to define the vertical
and lateral extent of the dissolved 1,2-DCA groundwater plume;
• Ten additional soil vapor extraction(SVE)wells to address the entire site; and
• Five additional multi-level groundwater monitoring wells.-
The Letter requests an extension until 15 January 2004 for the Corrective Action Plan (CAP)previously
requested by 15 December 2003. The Letter states that the vertical and lateral extent of the 1,2-dichloroethane
(1,2-DCA)groundwater plume has not been defined, and that 1,2-DCA has been detected at 150 below ground
surface in a recent investigation. The Letter suggests that, even with the revised schedule, an addendum to the
CAP may be necessary to address remediation of the dissolved 1,2-DCA groundwater plume.
The Workplan is approved as proposed for Interim Soil Vapor Extraction and the additional Site Assessment.
Since there is a new finding of dissolved 1,2-DCA at greater depth in groundwater than previously detected, the
CAP will require the additional information proposed in the Workplan. Therefore, the schedule for the additional
Site Assessment and the CAP is modified as follows:
• The CAP will be due 60 days after the receipt of the additional Site Assessment Report. The additional
Site Assessment Report is now due with the next quarterly groundwater monitoring report on
1 March 2004,with the CAP to follow on 1 May 2004. The Interim Remediation Reports will be
included in the quarterly reports as proposed in the Workplan.
Please provide 72 hours prior notice for fieldwork, and call me at(916)464-4615 if you have any questions or
comments.
ames L.
