Mr. Sheldon Heckman -4 - 12/27/01
Mr. Richard Calone, Esq.,
Richard Calone, Inc.
analyses in Table 1, which is a collection of multiple investigation tables. The Work Plan does not
provide a list of all proposed MDLs. Please provide a table of the proposed MDLs for all analyses.
8. Section 3.7 Ground Water Sample Collection And Analysis, page 15, Bullet 3: The text states that
groundwater will be analyzed for unspecified physicochemical or bio-enumeration constituents by
unspecified EPA or ASTM methods. Please include a list of constituents that will be analyzed, and
indicate which analytes will be used to determine the feasibility of"natural attenuation"
(bioremediation), as mentioned in Section 1.0 in the text. The USEPA website can be searched to
obtain the guidance for monitored natural attenuation (NINA), which contains a list of MNA
parameters needed to evaluate the feasibility of natural attenuation.
9. Section 4.5 Well Development And Survey: Please complete the last sentence and insert the missing
word, which appears to be "monument" or"benchmark".
10. Figure 10 should show graphically that the bentonite plug will be set at less than the indicated 20
foot plus well screen depth, not 48 to 50 feet as now shown.
11. Table 1: The soil analytical results units of measure are missing from pages 1, 2, 4, and 5 of the
table. Please copy the appropriate footnotes from the appropriate pages, or footnote the correct units
(Table 1 is a combination of several tables with different units of measure).
Please provide a revised Work Plan by 1 February 2001, addressing the comments above. Include a
revised schedule for the submittal of a detailed investigation report, in accordance with the previously
provided (1 October 2001) Attachment B (Items To Be Included In A Site Assessment Report), which
includes, at a minimum, results of the soil and groundwater investigation for petroleum hydrocarbons
and volatile organic compounds. Also provide a submittal date for a remedial action plan, in accordance
with the previously provided (1 October 2001) Attachment C (Items To Be Included In A Remedial
Action Plan), which includes, at a minimum,
a. the remedial options to clean up petroleum hydrocarbon and volatile organic compounds
in soil and groundwater,
b. an engineering evaluation/cost analysis for each remedial option,
c. and a proposed remedial option.
If you have any questions please contact me at (916) 255-3050 or bartonj @rb5s.swrcb.ca.aov.
aures L.
