The Investigation Report documents
drilling and sampling of soil borings, and installation and sampling of seven groundwater monitoring
wells. Four borings were sampled using cone penetrometer(locations P30 through P33) from 27-29
December 2000 (direct push). Seven borings were drilled using hollow stem auger(HSA, locations
MW-1 to MW-7) during 24-26 January 2001. Soil samples (cores) were taken at five foot depth
intervals, and were analyzed at the following depths:
• Using a soil sampler(direct push) from depths of 60'to refusal/90', and
• Using a split spoon (HSA) from depths of 30' through 55' (MW-1); 45' and 50' (MW-3); at five
foot intervals from 45'though 60' (MW-4); and at 60', 80' and at five foot intervals from 95'
through 105' (MW-6).
Groundwater was sampled from a HydropunchTM-type tool in the direct push borings, and from
monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-7 during quarterly groundwater monitoring on 5 February 2001.
The water table is approximately 44 feet below ground surface. Groundwater flow direction is to the
northeast at a gradient of 0.0005 ft/ft.
All samples (water and soil) were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)-diesel,TPH-
gasoline, and TPH-stoddard solvent (TPH-D, TPH-G and TPH-SS by EPA Method 8015 Modified),
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX by EPA Method 8020), and volatile organic
compounds, including oxygenates (VOCs by EPA Method 8260). Soil concentration results include
2300 mg/kg (TPH-G), 2000 mg/kg (TPH-D), 2300 mg/kg (TPH-SS) and methanol (VOCs) at 310
mg/kg. Groundwater results include 120,00 µg/L(TPH-G), 330 µg/L(TPH-D), 120,000 µg/L(TPH-SS),
96-72-1100-760 µg/L(B-T-E-X).
California Environmental Protection Agency
Ca Recycled Paper
