Phil Govea December 31, 2003 Page 2 Soil borings will be advanced to the target depth with a hand auger. Samples will be collected in brass sleeves driven into the bottom of the boring with a slide hammer. Soil borings will be back filled with native cuttings. The brass sleeves containing the samples will be sealed with Teflon tape and plastic caps, placed in plastic bags, and stored in a chilled cooler until delivery to the laboratory. Chain of custody procedures will be followed. Drilling and sampling equipment will be decontaminated after each sample to prevent cross- contamination of samples. Decontamination will consist of washing with a detergent, rinsing, and a final rinse with deionized water. LABORATORY ANALYSIS Samples will be delivered to a California-certified analytical laboratory within 24-hours of collection. Samples will be stored in a chilled cooler or refrigerator until delivery to the laboratory. Samples will be submitted with a five day turn around time. Analytes and laboratory methods are attached in Table 1. REPORTING A report will be prepared to present and evaluate the findings of the soil investigation. The report will include a discussion of the field work, including any deviations from this work plan; a presentation of the analytical results; and an evaluation of the soil beneath the sludge drying beds using the analytical results collected on September 24, 2003 and in January 2004.
