Air Sparging Pilot Test Related Activities Report and Remedial Action Work Plan
Former Countryside Market, Stockton, California April 30, 2015
6.0 REM EDIATION WORK PLAN
The approved IRAP specified that AS and SVE should be considered for implementation and
tested/evaluated before full-scale implementation. Based on pilot test results provided in Section
5.0 above, full-scale AS and SVE are considered feasible. AS/SVE is the best available
remediation technology to meet Site clean up goals by injecting ambient air intended to aerobically
treat petroleum hydrocarbons dissolved in groundwater and remove mass remaining in soil.
The system will consist of a well network of ten AS wells and four SVE wells, (including existing
AS-1, AS-2 and VW-1). The Site map showing proposed remediation features is included as
Figure 5A. The proposed AS wells will be screened in the saturated zone, similar to both AS-1 and
AS-2 (screened from approximately 110 to 115 feet bgs). A total of four SVE wells will be installed
in the vadose zone, two screened similar to VW-1 (screened from approximately 30 to 60 feet bgs)
and two screened 60 to 80 feet bgs. The exact screen intervals for the AS and SVE wells may be
modified slightly based on lithology encountered in the field during well installation.
The following scope of work is proposed for installation, startup, and operation of an in-situ AS/SVE
treatment system:
Acquire necessary permits from SJCEHD and San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control
District (SJV-APCD);
Install eight additional AS wells and three additional SVE wells at the Site (ten injection
wells and four extraction wells total, including existing wells AS-1, AS-2 and VW-1);
Install remediation equipment (i.e. air compressor, injection equipment, vacuum pump,
treatment vessels, control panel, and flow control devices) in the proposed fenced
compound;
Install remediation piping (typically 1-inch schedule 80 PVC for AS and 2-inch schedule 40
PVC for SVE) to connect proposed and existing AS and SVE wells to the proposed
remediation equipment compounds;
Start injection equipment and instrumentation for in-situ AS/SVE system operations;
Evaluate system performance and environmental data including air injection pressure and
flow rates at the individual AS wells and vacuum rates and flow rates associated with SVE
operation. In addition, DO and ORP will be monitored in existing groundwater monitoring
wells and SVE influent and effluent VOC concentrations to calculate mass removal; and
Present operational data and remedial progress summaries in remedial progress reports
and provide recommendations.
6-1 The Source Group, Inc.
