WATERLOO ROAD, STOCKTON,
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY (RB CASE# 390609)
I reviewed the Interim Remediation Work Plan Addendum (Workplan Addendum) received
1 June 2012 from Advanced GeoEnvironmental Inc. (AGE), the consultant for Deputy Dhaliwal. The
Workplan Addendum proposed installation of one additional onsite 4" diameter groundwater
extraction well (EW-9) screened from 80' to 100' below ground surface (bgs), and located in the
southwest corner of the site near EW-5 (screened 45' to 65' bgs) and multilevel (A through E zones)
monitoring well MW-5. New well EW-9 will increase the efficiency of the current groundwater pump
and treatment (GWPT) system by 2 gallons per minute in the 80' to 100' bgs zone, and reduce
groundwater concentrations of the groundwater plume migrating towards offsite MW-11 (100'
downgradient of
EW-9).
First quarter 2012 groundwater monitoring concentrations are given in micrograms per Liter (ug/L) in
the table below.
Well Screen Interval TPHg Benzene MTBE TBA
MW-5A 45' to 65' bgs 800 <0.5 430 2,100
MW-5B 87' to 100' bgs 3,000 520 94 220
MW-11 90' to 100' bgs 900 <0.5 830 <10
TPHg = total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline MTBE = methyl tert butyl ether TBA = tertiary butyl alcohol
The Workplan Addendum also proposed the installation an air injection bubbler into an existing
250-gallon sediment holding tank, prior to the current six 1,000 lb. granulated activated carbon (GAC)
units, "...to ensure treatment of MTBE in extracted groundwater'. According to an email received
8 June 2012 from AGE, TBA concentrations in groundwater are rising onsite and the additional
pre-treatment for the GWPT system will extend the life of the GAC. Influent treatment system
concentrations in May 2012 were TPHg, 20,000 u9/L; benzene, 1,600 ug/L, TBA, 710 ug/L, and
MTBE, 220 ug/L. The TPH mass removal from March 2012 to May 2012 was 52 lbs.
KARL E LONGLEY SCD. P.E., I PAMELA C. CRELDON P1.. DCEE, E.<Et-Amy: ornr,cr,
11370 sw-, Center Drive 5200.
