25 January 2012
AGE-NC Project No. 02-0926
Page 2 of 7
Volatile organic compounds benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX)
methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), diisopropyl ether
(DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE) and tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME) by
EPA method 8260B; and
Lead scavengers 1,2-dichloroethane and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) by EPA method
8260B.
Once the pilot test was initiated, startup influent and effluent vapor stream samples were
collected from the on-site SVE system. Vapor samples were collected from the influent and
effluent stream throughout the duration of the pilot test; an effluent sample was not
collected on the final day prior to pilot test termination. Samples collected were submitted
to CTEL for analysis of the following:
TPH-g by EPA method 8015M;
BTEX by EPA method 8260B; and
MTBE by EPA method 8260B.
Following the initiation of sparging, pressure and flow readings from the compressor and
DO and depth to water measurements were measured at each well location at two hour
intervals during each day of the test.
3.0. IN-SITU AIR SPARGE PILOT TEST FINDINGS
After initial breakthrough, pressures of approximately 15.5 and 16 pounds per square inch
(psi) and a flow of 1 to 2 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) were maintained at the
compressor to the well. During the IAS pilot testing activities, DO measurements
(milligrams per liter and percentage) and pressure readings were collected from
observation wells MW-1 through MW-5 (Table 3). The following is a summary of findings:
DO was measured at concentrations ranging from 1.23 milligrams per liter (mg/I;
14.8%) to 3.54 mg/I (39.0%) in well MW-1;
DO was measured at concentrations ranging from 3.40 mg/I (39.5%) to 4.85 mg/I
(53.9 %) in well MW-2;
DO was measured at concentrations ranging from 0.35 mg/I (4.2%) to 1.71 mg/I
(18.5%) in well MW-3;
DO was measured at concentrations ranging from 3.88 mg/I (41.8 %) to 6.83 mg/I
(73.0%) in well MW-4; and
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
