The location of the fiber optic line is shown in the attached picture. The orange diamonds
marked by Comcast's contractor and the red dashed lines indicate the limits of the fiber
optic line trench. According to Comcast's contractor, the fiber optic line is directly buried
(not in conduit) and may meander through the limits of the trench. In summary, we do not
know how close the fiber optic line is to wells MW-2, MW-2X and OS-1. Theoretically,
it could be less than a foot and over-boring, especially to a diameter larger than the
original boring, is unduly hazardous.
Attached is a photo of the steel casing of OS-1. Also attached is a photo of similar 1/2"
diameter steel casing that was the subject of an attempted drill-out at another site. Drill-
out was not feasible and driller's equipment was damaged.
Attached is a photo of the steel conductor casing of MW-202
A plume definition map is attached
We understand that San Joaquin County well standards allow for pressure grouting in situations
where groundwater will be adequately protected or where drill-out is not feasible. As a general
rule, pressure grouting is preferable to drill out from the standpoint of time, cost and waste
generation. We hope you will consider our recommendations and if you have any questions or
need any additional information, do not hesitate to call Greg Stahl or me at (209) 522-4119.
Respectfully submitted,
y wse
ject Coordinator
jweese@groundzeroanalysis.com
Attachments
