A Ninyo & Moore field geologist will log the observed soil lithology encountered in each boring,
following the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). At a minimum, for every soil sample
collected, a corresponding soil headspace sample will also be collected. Soil headspace samples
will be screened for organic vapor measurements by placing a small amount of soil in a resealable
plastic bag, and allowing samples to equilibrate for at least 15 minutes before screening using a
PID meter. PID readings of headspace samples will be recorded on soil boring logs.
All re-usable downhole soil boring equipment will be decontaminated before and between sample
locations using a high pressure water steam cleaner or by using Liquinox© and a triple rinse
methodology. The used decontamination water will be contained in a labeled 55 gallon drum. In
addition, the soil cuttings generated by the drilling will be contained in a labeled 55 gallon drum.
These drums containing the investigation-derived waste (IDW) will be securely stored on the site
pending waste characterization for proper off-Site transportation and disposal.
Soil samples will be placed in laboratory cleaned 16-ounce jars and (for volatile organic
compounds) either Encore samplers or with Core-N-One samplers in general accordance with the
EPA Method 5035, and groundwater samples will be collected in either 40 milliliter VOAs or one
liter glass jars. Sample containers will be labeled with the borehole identification, sample depth,
sample date, and time and placed in an ice-filled cooler for shipment to a State of California-
certified analytical laboratory for analyses under chain-of-custody record.
Subsequent to the completion of sampling activities, the borings will be grouted from their bottom
depth to 3 inches below the surface following the County permit guidelines. The ground surface at
each boring location will be finished to match the existing ground surface.
Laboratory Analyses
The soil and groundwater samples will be submitted under chain-of-custody documentation to a
State of California-certified analytical laboratory. Soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for
the following compounds:
• TPHmo and TPHd using United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method
8015M; and
• TPHg, and VOCs using EPA Method 82606.
Grab groundwater samples will also be analyzed for the following:
• PAHs using EPA Method 8270C.
Ninyo&Moore 1 180 East Weber Avenue,Stockton,California 1403488001 1 May 23,2019 4
