California Integrated -3-
Waste Management Board
Therefore, a new background well would be needed at that
time. Monitoring wells G-2 and G-3 were placed down
gradient of modules 1 and 2. These wells will not be down
gradient of modules 3-10 with a ground water gradient of
west-southwest. Therefore, new monitoring wells must be
installed as operations progress.
Please submit documentation showing the locations of the
additional wells to be installed with rationale justifying
the number and locations of these wells. The preliminary
closure cost estimates must also be adjusted for
installation of the additional monitoring wells.
Response:
Plan sheet Drawing No. 1 shows the location of background well G-
1 as being located on the east line of the landfill. This
location is intended as the permanent background well location
through the active site life and post-closure period.
Additionally, since the ground water gradient is west southwest,
two additional wells will be installed in the future. They will
be strategically located to adequately monitor all future module
constructions. One well placed along the west side of the
landfill between modules 4 and 5 and one well placed on the south
side of module 6 will adequately monitor the sequenced module
opening.
The cost for installation of the two additional well was included
in the closure cost estimate.
6. The Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan for sample
analyses to be submitted to the LEA should also be submitted
to the Regional Board.
Response:
The Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan for sample analysis is
included in the Plan report as Appendix B, SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS
PROCEDURES. The Plan has been submitted to the RWQCB in
accordance with Waste Board requirements.
