During volatile hydrocarbon analysis of an existing monitoring well (MW2), an unknown peak
was identified between benzene and toluene. Additional analysis detected halogenated volatile organic
compounds. These results have been subsequently confirmed during sampling on April 8, 1993.
An onsite non-community public water system well, which supplies water to several businesses, was also
tested on April 8th and significant levels of halogenated volatile organic compounds were detected. Follow
up testing of this well on May 5, 1993, again showed significant contamination.
Copies of the analytical results on the public water well are enclosed for your reference, along with a site
map showing the location of the former UST and well locations. Also included are excerpts from the
consultant's report regarding their findings and the initial MW2 analytical results. As noted in the
consultant's report, the source of this contamination has not been clearly identified nor has the possible
extent. There are private domestic wells in the immediate vicinity.
Please notify us as soon as possible of the action your agency will take on this matter. Our office has
instructed the purveyor (who is also the property owner) to provide bottled water to his tenant businesses.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (209) 468-3431.
Jogi Khanna, M.D:, M.P.H.
Health Officer
Laurie A.
