San Joaquin County Environmental Checklist
Less than
Significant
Potentially with Less than
Significant Mitigation Significant No
Impact Incorporated Impact Impact
XIV. RECREATION. Would the project:
a. Increase the use of existing neighborhood and ❑ ❑ ❑ ■
regional parks or other recreational facilities such
that substantial physical deterioration of the facility
would occur or be accelerated?
b. Include recreational facilities or require the ❑ ❑ ❑ ■
construction or expansion of recreational facilities
that might have an adverse physical effect on the
environment?
Setting
No existing parks or recreational facilities are located on the landfill property or
within the immediate project vicinity. The nearest regional park facility,
Stillman Magee Regional Park(San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation
Department web site), is located northeast of the community of Lockeford,
approximately 9 miles north of the NCRC&SL.
Impact Discussion
a. The NCRC&SL is located in northeastern San Joaquin County in an area
designated for agricultural land uses. The project does not involve the lateral
expansion of the facility outside the current landfill footprint. Landfill operations
would continue as described in Chapter 1,Project Description, and no new
construction is proposed as part of the project. The project does not involve any
new facilities or other elements that would provide substantial new employment
or other opportunities that would increase the local population and could result in
an increase in the use of neighborhood or regional parks;therefore, the proposed
project would not affect existing recreational facilities. Impact is less than
significant.No mitigation is required.
b. The proposed project does not include construction or expansion of any
recreational facility that could itself have an impact on the environment. There
would be no impact. The impact is less than significant. No mitigation is
necessary.
Notice of Preparation for the June 2006
North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill 2_69
Permit Revision J&S 06307.06
