0,0000 *
CONTAINMENT
SOLUTIONS
Revised 02/23/01
Supercedes 01/11/02
Field Test Method for Testing the Annular Space
Of an Installed CSI Fiberglass Double-Wall Tank
With Dry Annular Space
This test method is applicable for testing the dry annular space of an installed
Containment Solutions (CSI) fiberglass underground storage tank. The tank may
contain any level of fuel or water and fuel or water may be added or removed at any
time during the annular space test.
The test procedure requires that a vacuum be pulled in the tank annular space and
held for a period of time. The amount of time required to hold the vacuum and the
acceptable change in the vacuum level will vary based on the tank annular space
volume. The test protocol includes an initial hold time with a maximum vacuum loss
of 2" Hg. If the vacuum loss exceeds 2" Hg during the initial hold time, the vacuum is
continued for a longer time with a maximum vacuum loss of 4" Hg. This longer test
time is sometimes required to allow for changes in temperature or variables.
You will need the following equipment-
1 .
quipment:1 . Vacuum gauge with a range of 0-30" Hg with increments of .5" Hg or smaller
2. A vacuum pump or an air-driven venturi vacuum pump capable of pulling at
least 15" Hg vacuum with a compressor to drive the venturi vacuum pump
3. A valve and air hose
Test Procedure:
1 . Connect the vacuum gauge, valve, and vacuum pump to any annular space
fitting. The assembly should allow the vacuum level in the tank to be read
with the valve closed. The valve should be between the vacuum pump and
the tank fitting. Be sure that the assembly is airtight.
2. Start the vacuum pump and open the valve.
3. When the vacuum level reaches 13" Hg to 15" Hg, close the valve and stop
the vacuum pump.
02/23/01
