4. Wait until the vacuum level drops to 10" Hg or less.
5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 until the vacuum level stabilizes for 5 minutes at
any level between 10" Hg and 15" Hg
6. If the vacuum level is more than 10" Hg, open the valve slightly until the
vacuum level is between 9.5 and 10" Hg.
7. Record the vacuum level and the time
8. Hold the vacuum for the period of time shown in the following table for the
particular tank size being tested.
CSI Tank Capacity * Hold Time
Up to 15,000 gallons 45minutes
Over 15,000 and up to 20,000 gallons 1 hours 45 minutes
Over 20,000 and up to 30,000 gallons 2 hours 45 minutes
Over 30,000 gallons and up to 50,000 gallons 4 hours 45 minutes
* This is the total tank capacity. For a compartment tank, it is the
combined capacity of all compartments.
9. If the vacuum level has dropped more than 2" Hg from the starting vacuum
level recorded in step 7, continue to hold the vacuum until the total vacuum
hold time equals the time shown in the following table:
CSI Tank Capacity * Total Hold Time **
U to 15,000 gallons 1 hour 45 minutes
Over 15,000 and up to 20,000 gallons 4 hours
Over 20,000 and up to 30,000 gallons 6 hours 15 minutes
Over 30,000 gallons and up to 50,000 gallons 10 hours 45 minutes
* This is the total tank capacity. For a compartment tank, it is the
combined capacity of all compartments.
** This time includes the hold time in step 8.
10. If the vacuum level has dropped 4" Hg or less from the starting vacuum level
recorded in step 7, the annular space is airtight and no additional testing is
required.
If the vacuum level has dropped more than 4" Hg from the starting vacuum
level recorded in step 7, check that the testing connections are airtight and
repeat this procedure starting with step 2.
If the tank fails to hold a vacuum that is 4" Hg or less from the starting
vacuum level recorded in step 7 after repeating this procedure, contact the
tank manufacturer.
02/23/01
