0
DAMERON HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION
March 26, 1996
Kase Foley, R.E.H.S.
Public Health Services, San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division
304 E. Weber Ave., 3rd Floor
P.O. Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Dear Ms. Foley,
I trust that by now you have received a copy of the
interpretation of the medical waste storage and signage
requirements from Michael Schott, Environmental Specialist at
the Department of Health Services (enclosed). This should
clear up the violations you cited during your inspection of
Dameron Hospital on December 6, 1995.
In addition, our Central Services Director contacted you soon
after the inspection to clarify that the second item on your
report (i.e. your request that the name of the biological
indicator and expiration date be provided on each sterili-
zation record report form) is actually not a requirement, as
the necessary information is included in our polices and
procedures.
To prevent any future inconveniences, it may be in your best
interest to determine that key individuals (i.e. the
Executive Housekeeper and the Infection Control Nurse) are
present before you conduct a medical waste inspection. I
believe that if I had been present, some of your concerns
could have been cleared up in a more time -efficient manner.
I would like to request that you send as an addendum to the
December 6, 1995 report to confirm that Dameron Hospital is
in full compliance with the California Health and Safety Code
regarding medical waste. As always, you can expect ongoing
cooperation in meeting all compliance issues.
I would sincerely appreciate a written response from you by
April 4, 1996 so that I may include this item for follow-up
at the Infection Control Committee meeting on April 8. Thank
you for your assistance in this matter.
Sincerely,
Linda Knowles, R.N., M.S., C.I.C.
Nurse Epidemiologist
Enclosure
cc: Administration
Dameron Hospital Association
Infection Control Committee
Dameron Hospital Association
A NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION • 525 WEST ACACIA STREET • STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA 95203-2484 • TELEPHONE (209) 944-5550
