ISOLATION POLICY AND <br />POLICY AND PROCEDURE <br />'PROCEDURE Rai R <br />�TITLE: REMOVAL, HANDLING AND <br />TRevision Date: 6/86 5/98 <br />,DISPOSAL OF ISOLATION LINEN ��Reviewed <br />Date: 7/95 <br />:AND TRASH <br />j <br />Pa■ - ■ - <br />From patient rooms and any other area, once every 8 -hour shift: <br />Shift 1 starting at 10:00a. m. / Shift 2 starting at 8:45p. m. <br />(Shift 3 on call basis as needed) <br />ITEMS NEEDED: <br />1. Isolation gowns/Disposable gloves. <br />2. Infectious waste liners (red with black printing). Infectious <br />soiled linen liners (yellow with red printing). <br />3. Autoclaveable liners. <br />4. Isolation cart, designated for use on all infectious material, <br />which is stored in the outside secured infectious waste holding <br />room (Keep door closed when unattended). <br />STEPS: <br />1. Check isolation board in supply room and prepare a list of <br />isolation/precautions rooms daily. <br />8.' Rut isolation gown on in basement, making sure gown is overlapped <br />in back and all your clothing is protected; tie with a bow. <br />3. Start on 4th floor, then to 3rd floor and 2nd floor, including Burn <br />Unit (also 1st floor if requested). Take cart and liners up to the <br />isolation/precautions room and park cart by door of room. <br />4. Referring to the attached summary, determine whether one or two <br />individuals are needed for the pick-up. <br />5. For the precautions listed, pick-up is completed by one person as <br />per attached summary: <br />a. Precautions as indicated on the door sign will be followed. <br />b. Gloves are changed between each patient room. <br />C. Gloves are removed and hands washed prior to leaving the <br />floor. <br />6. The following types of isolation will require two people to <br />complete the pick-up as per attached summary: <br />*Strict (MRSA/VRE) <br />*Contact <br />*Respiratory <br />*A. F. B. <br />
