121 <br />SECTION: ISOLATION POLICY AND <br />PROCEDURE <br />POLICY AND PROCEDURE <br />':TITLE: REMOVAL, HANDLING AND -IRevision <br />iDISPOSAL OF ISOLATION LINEN <br />'AND TRASH <br />Date: 6/86 5/98 <br />Reviewed Date: 7/95 <br />S. Continued <br />a. Notify Housekeeping Aide assigned to the area (Shift 1) or <br />Nursing Staff (Shifts 2 & 3) that you are there to pick up <br />isolation linen and trash from the isolation rooms. <br />b., The Housekeeping Aide/Nursing Staff will put on protective <br />equipment as indicated on the door sign prior to entering the <br />room. This person will tie off the infectious waste and drop <br />it into the autnc%aveablm liner which is held open by the <br />second Housekeeping Aide (transport person) outside the room. <br />C. The transport person will take special precautions when double <br />bagging. The autoclaveable liner is held open at the top, <br />making sure that the hands never touch the contaminated bag as <br />it is dropped into the second bag at the doorway (Note: Gloves <br />are worn for added protection, but are removed and hands <br />washed if contamination is suspected. They are also removed <br />and hands washed prior to leaving the floor). <br />d. In the same manner, the soiled linen is dropped into a second <br />yellow liner at the doorway. <br />e. The transport person then will put bags into the cart. <br />f. The pet -son in the room will replace liners (supplied by the <br />transport person) on the frames, remove gloves, wash hands and <br />, then remove the remainder of the protective equipment (gowns <br />and then mask, if wmnm>. <br />7~ Take cart down to basement and outside to the infectious waste <br />holding area. Transfer infectious soiled linen into the cart <br />provided in the holding room. Transfer the infectious waste into <br />the two gray infectious carts provided, which are in the outside <br />secured infectious waste holding room, where they will be prepared <br />for the sterilizer. <br />B. Wash cart with germicidal detergent solution. <br />9. Remove gown and put with the infectious soiled linen. <br />160. Wash hands. <br />11. Log all pickāups on log sheet in housekeeping supply room posted to <br />the left of the isolation/precautions board. <br />
