0 1 0
Medical Waste Management Plan
the solution should be allowed contact with the surface for a minimum of 10 minutes. The
amount of solution mixed will be no more than can be used at any one time.
Medical Waste Treatment and Disposal Method:
Dameron Hospital treats medical waste on-site using steam sterilization via a Sani-Pak unit.
All solid waste is removed by a municipal waste hauler.
All chemotherapeutic and pathology waste will be picked up at least weekly by BFI medical
waste hauler and transported to the off-site treatment facility identified below. Records of
medical waste transported to BFI will be kept in the Histology Laboratory and retained for
a minimum of three years.
See Infection Control Committee Policy/Procedure:
"Disposal of Infectious (Medical) Waste."
See Housekeeping Department Policy/Procedure:
"San -I -Pak Operation."
Emergency Action Plan:
While it is highly unlikely that the company would experience a shutdown of operations,
contingencies include use of an alternate hauler or retention of the medical waste for not
more than 7 days from the point of generation above 0 degrees Centigrade (32 degrees
Fahrenheit). Another contingency for less well-defined emergency situations would be to
contact the Environmental Health Division -Medical Waste Management Program of San
Joaquin Public Health Services.
Spills are cleaned up by removing gross contamination and then disinfecting the area
utilizing Ves-Phene with a contact time of ten (10) minutes. The amount of solution mixed
will not exceed the amount to be used at any one time.
Waste Hauler:
Browning Ferris Industries of California
3326 Fitzgerald Road
Rancho Cardova CA 95742
(916) 631-0600
Waste Treatment Facility:
Same
Adopted: 3/31/99
Revised: 6/21/00
W
