-/ Write the date the empty container is placed into service on the container label provided. <br />Container Removal: <br />Verify that the container lid is closed and tightly fitted. <br />Each container is to have two temper evident stickers. Each case will also have two tamper evident <br />stickers per container. After you fully lock on the container lid a sticker should be placed on either <br />end or appropriate openings of the container to prove that it has not been tampered with. <br />Handling <br />o <br />• All container lids must be closed except when someone adds to the waste. <br />• Containers should be considered for replacement when 3/4 full. <br />• Once the pharmaceutical waste has been placed in the proper container and it is full, Environmental <br />Services will be contacted to remove it from the area and replace with a new container. <br />• Each container has a gasketed lid - this is to ensure that the contents do not spill if tipped over. <br />When handling these containers keep the container upright to guarantee that the waste does not leak. <br />Transportation <br />• EVS will pickup the full container from the Satellite Workplace Accumulation Site and deliver it <br />directly to the Central Waste Storage Facility. <br />• Full containers are not to be left unattended in any area. <br />• As a full container may be heavy, hand carrying of containers is not advisable — use a cart. <br />• Entry to Central Waste Storage Facility is via a keyed door and a padlocked gate. <br />Stora e <br />Central Waste Storage Area — Basement Level adjacent to Plant Operations access ramp across from <br />Carpenter's Shop. As this is a secured area, access is for authorized individuals only. <br />Containers ready for disposal are to be stored no more than seven (7) days. <br />Disposal <br />Contracted service — Stericycle Incorporated. Incineration at a permitted medical waste treatment facility. <br />Treatment <br />Incineration is the only method that currently exists for disposal of waste pharmaceuticals other than as <br />hazardous wastes.
