®AERON HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION
525 WEST ACACIA STREET
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
® 95203
April 7, 1988
Mr. Alan Biedermann, R.S., R.D.I.
Environmental Health Division
San Joaquin Local Health District
1601 East Hazelton Avenue
P 0 Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Dear Mr. Biedermann:
Enclosed please find our proposed revised_ Policy/
Procedure for Disposal of Infectious Waste and a copy
from Winfield certifying that the autoclavable bag does
pass the 165 gram Free Falling Dart Impact Test. Our
plan (as noted in II of the Poli'c'y) is to use the auto-
clavable bag as the second, outer baa for double bagging
infectious waste. This bag is labelled "biohazard," is
marked with the biohazard symbol and indicates that the
contents are infectious and require autoclaving. If the
compactor/sterilizer became inoperable, we would revert
back to using only red bags for double -bagging.
We are anxiously awaiting your approval of this new
procedure, which will result in great cost savings to the
hospital while maintaining safety.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Cordially,
Linda Knowles, RN, BS, MS
Nurse Epidemiologist
LK: j s
enclosure
cc: Mrs. Parrott, Executive Housekeeper-
l ."" !
r P „
ENVIRONAIENTAL HEALTH
EP41T EIIE
