Laboratory <br />1. Microbiology <br />All specimens and attendant disposable fomites are <br />autoclaved before disposal. <br />2. Clinical Laboratory <br />a. Blood that has been tested for hepatitis and the <br />attendant fomites are autoclaved before disposal. <br />b. All clots, serum, body fluids, excretions, and <br />secretions and their containers are disposed of as <br />infectious waste. <br />c. All specimens and their attendant disposable fomites <br />from isolation patients are disposed of as infectious <br />waste. <br />3. Pathology <br />a. All specimens, including recognizable body parts, are <br />sent to a private crematorium for incineration. <br />B. Obstetrics <br />1.Non-pathological placentas are frozen and are picked up by <br />a commercial vendor. <br />2. Placentas from women known to have Heptatitis B are <br />disposed of as infectious waste. <br />3.Disposable materials contaminated with blood will be <br />considered infectious waste. <br />
