Soil Suitability Report BSK Job E21-002-01B
Cascade BESS Project August 26, 2021
Stockton, California P a g e | 5
4.GROUNDWATER INFORMATION
4.1 Groundwater Description of General Area
The depth to groundwater at this Site is not specifically known. Groundwater data for the site is based on
publicly available historical data from the nearest groundwater monitoring well (379146N1212401W001),
which is located 2,740 feet to the south of the Site. As of August 26, 2020, the depth to groundwater at
that location was 44.0 feet below ground surface (bgs). Historic data from nearby wells would indicate
that the depth to groundwater at the site would be between 40-50 feet bgs with the groundwater
directional flow trending in an east-northeast direction. Seasonal changes between fall 2019 and spring
2020 generally show an approximate fluctuation of less than two feet.
No groundwater was encountered during drilling to a maximum depth of 31.5 feet bgs on February 1,
2021 as seen in the previous Limited Geotechnical Investigation (Limited Geotechnical Investigation
Report Letter, Cascade BESS Project, 2482 Carpenter Road, Stockton, California, BSK Project No. E21-002-
01B, dated February 26, 2021).
4.2 Potential Groundwater Contamination Issues
Proposed future work on the site consists of replacing the existing septic/leech line system with a
commercial system on the northern half of the site as well as the expansion an electrical substation on
the southern part of the site. Because there is no plan for expansion of the adult care facility that exists
on the property currently, in which the current septic/leech line system is being utilized, it is thought that
the replacement of the current system with a commercial septic system will reduce nitrate loading to
acceptable levels and therefore reduce the potential groundwater contamination due to nitrate loading.
As mentioned before, adjacent to the site to the east and toward the north are large orchards that could
also be sources of nitrate due to fertilizer use.
4.3 Description of Constituents and Sample Location
Nitrate constituents were from water sources around the site. Nearby and recent water quality data was
available from only one source, Site Number: 375545121141601 Site Name: 001N007E17N001M
Operated by the USGS. This well is approximately 2,640 feet to the north-northeast of the site, 170 feet
north of Duck Creek.
4.4 Groundwater Sample Collection Process
An onsite groundwater sample was not collected for this project. Data from a nearby well operated and
documented by USGS was considered sufficient by representatives from San Joaquin County. The well
with Site Number: 375545121141601 data used in the analysis is found in Appendix C.
