Z0011 Lovelace Transfer Station Customers
Safety of site customers is paramount criterion in operating the site. Parking and tipping areas
are clearly marked. Signs are provided to direct the flow of traffic. Attendants direct traffic within
the MRF to reduce potentially dangerous situations. Users of the MRF are required to keep pets
and children within their vehicle at all times.
The separation in elevation between tipping floor and self -haul disposal area (4 feet) and
commercial disposal area (8 feet) isolate the waste handling from the site users. This minimizes
contact between users and wastes.
An attendant is present at all times in the self -haul area.
2.6.2 Transfer Station Staff
Safety of the Transfer Station staff is provided by adherence to the general Health and Safety
Plan (discussed elsewhere), and to the following additional procedures that respond to the
conditions and activities within the MRF.
• Radio communication is maintained at all times between equipment operators and
personnel working on the tipping floor with hand-held radios.
• The compactor is equipped with an audible back-up alarm and working lights.
• Operators alert personnel working on the tipping floor to equipment being operated on the
Lipping floor by the use of portable radios. Individuals without portable radios who are
working on the tipping floor will be informed verbally by the staff person supervising them
(i.e. Sheriff Inmate Supervisor, County staff). Staff who supervise Sheriff Inmate crews
and Alternate Work Program participants have port
equipment on the tipping floor.
The following safety measures are taken while using the compactor on the tipping floor:
• Only qualified personnel operate the compactor.
Lovelace MRF and Transfer Station Department of Public Works/Solid Waste Division
Transfer Processing Report
County of San Joaquin
April 10, 2015 13
able
radios. Operators
have been
instructed to make their presence known
to tipping floor
personnel prior to
operating
equipment on the tipping floor.
