Constant monitoring of <br />containers <br />by <br />facility personnel allow the <br />operator to ensure that all of the <br />containers are cleaned <br />to prevent <br />the <br />creation of nuisances and <br />the harborage of vectors. <br />3.1.2 Non -Salvageable Items <br />Non -salvageable solid waste is transferred to a landfill for disposal. Other non -salvageable items <br />that cannot be disposed in the landfill, such as drugs, hazardous wastes, poisons, medical <br />wastes, syringes, needles, pesticides are retained on site temporarily, then transferred to a <br />facility permitted to receive these items. Many of these items are transferred to the San Joaquin <br />County Household Hazardous Waste Center in Stockton. <br />3.1.3 Scavenging And Salvaging <br />Salvaging operations including collection of recyclable materials (e.g., including corrugated <br />paper, mixed paper, newspaper, plastics, aluminum, ferrous metal, green materials and glass) is <br />performed in the MRF by County personnel. <br />Scavenging is prohibited at the LTS. <br />3.2 STORAGE AND REMOVAL OF SALVAGED MATERIAL <br />3.2.1 Materials Separation and Sorting <br />The LTS is designed to accept and process commercial, industrial, and household self -haul <br />refuse material, including garbage, trash, and recyclable materials such as yard waste, wood <br />waste, construction/demolition waste, agricultural waste, commingled recyclables, electronic <br />waste such as televisions, computers and copy machines, white goods such as refrigerators, <br />freezers and air conditioning units, tires, agricultural pesticide containers, and household <br />hazardous waste.
